3 days to go after today

I am struggling a bit today. Day 3 of Depletion and my energy is pretty much zero, especially after my cardio session early this am! I wish i could go home to bed but have to be at work!! Damn!
I am so looking forward to having the following after the comp is over and done with...........
Soy milk cappacino from Mc Cafe.
Steak, with sweet potato, carrots, peas, corn.
My hot x bun from Easter.
My white chocolate from Easter.
Carbs like rice and rice porridge.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm not long now.
Bikini came yesterday - WOW it is so gorgeous. Not letting anyone see me in it except Chelsea, before the Comp day. Sorry Greg, you will also have to wait. Haha.
Baby Sims - our Lucas Noah, is going strong and day by day becoming more and more beautiful, if that is possible. He has already gained some weight and is sleeping and eating really well. He is so strong. And starting to spend some time awake during the day, quite contentedly too, i am happy to say. Chels is getting some sleep during the night thank goodness, but of course is still tired! Feeding, changing, bathing, feeding, changing, feeding, changing, as so it goes on.
Talk soon,

C.O.U.N.T.D.O.W.N. is on!

6 more days till the Comp.................. Aaaaaaaaaaaaggggghhhhhhhhh I can't believe it! It's nearly here.
Now i am in my last week of training and preparation for the Comp. I have just started my last week's depletion diet........ nasty and boring! but i guess it's only for 6 days.
I feel i am just about ready.
People keep asking me if i am on track and i believe i am.
I would like to have had more work done on my lower body, but hey, it is my 1st comp and I am 50 so, all things considered, i feel i have done quite well actually.
I am very excited and a little nervous to say the least.
My bikini will arrive tomorrow, I can't wait.
Everything is pretty much organised so i am not stressing at this point anyway. Haha.
I have lots of people coming to cheer me on (thank goodness, I will need the support) so I hope I don't let them down.
More later.........

Baby Sims has arrived!!

I am very excited to announce that on Tuesday 13th April 2010 my gorgeous daughter Chelsea give birth to a stunningly beautiful bouncing baby boy!
Lucas Noah.
He weighed 3.980 kilos (approx 9lbs) and was born at 12.41am.
An absolutely beautiful baby boy!
Chelsea had a very long, but natural, labour and we were all very fortunate to have been able to be present at the birth.
Both Chelsea and Nathan did a fabulous job and Lucas is very strong and healthy and feeding well.

He actually came on the day he was due according to the doctor and not a moment before!

So much has happened

OMG it has been AGES since i last posted. Sorry.
So much has happened and i have been so busy.
My daughter is about to have her baby anytime now!! Due in a few days, but, that could be today, tomorrow, next week! Poor Chel, is totally over being preggy now! She says just bring me my baby!
Well 2 weeks to go till INBA Comp. I am so so so excited. I am right on track too.
Had a fabulous weekend in Qld with Di, the weekend before Easter. That was so worth it. I learned so much in that 2 days. Thanks Di. You really empowered me that weekend. And boosted my self confidence.
The last 4 weeks of training is quite enjoyable actually. Tough but enjoyable. Lots of Cardio now as well as some weight and plyometric work.
I am amazed at the changes in my body, since i started my 4 week depletion diet. I have shrunk and feel wonderful at the moment. Only thing is ALL my clothes are literally hanging off of my shrunken frame.
I will need a new wardrobe!! Ah what a shame! :)
The diet is tough. Boring. Gruelling. But i can cope as i do want to do well in this comp. I have my Hot X Buns in the freezer, and my Chocolate Bunnies and Eggs waiting for me on the Kitchen Bench for after the Comp celebrations. Haha.
Tomorrow i am having a fitting for my gorgeous bikini and have my shoes and jewellery ready to accessorize. Hehe.
Have booked, waxing, nails, tan, hair, etc etc all in advance so that is done!
Now i just have to diet and train hard for 2 more weeks and it will be time.
Yay, and hopefully very very soon i will be able to say bye now from Nana Jan!

OMG has it really been 2 weeks since my last entry? Unbelievable.
And only 5 weeks to go till my Adelaide INBA comp!
and............ only 3 weeks till Baby Sims is due!!

Tomorrow is Chelsea's 21st Birthday and last week on Tuesday 9th, her and Nath got engaged! CONGRATULATIONS CHELS AND NATH! XXXX Happy Birthday Chels xxxx

St Patrick's Day - just gone (Wednesday 17th March) was Dylan's 29th Birthday. (How old do i feel??) Happy Birthday Dylan xxxx

What else. My life is so happening at the moment. It's crazy.............

What with Work 4 days a week, Training 2 x a day, and studying for my Cert III in Fitness, teaching and performing dance, I am too busy!! aaaaaargh.

I have been trying to spend some time on my Posing and Routine practice, but, the days go by so fast. If I am not in bed by 10pm, i cannot get through the next day without severe tiredness, so i literally HAVE to be in bed by about 10pm. During the week at least....

I have been studying like mad at work, in between work stuff! But still have so much to do before the Exam which is the day Thursday before Easter.

I am off to Queensland on Friday night for the week end. Off to finally meet and stay with Di, my beautiful training mentor. I cannot wait. We will be working hard concentrating on poses, and routine. I will be glad to get some real solid practice in with Di. And no doubt, i will be studying on the plane there and back.

Tomorrow night is Chels' 21st Fiesta Party so have to go and find something Mexican to wear!! Ole!
Should be lots of fun. Greg is growing his Mexican moustache at the moment! Haha any excuse for a fancy moustache.

Will write soon, back to work now!

End Week 9 - Start Week 10

OMG 7 weeks to go!

Well things are starting to really accelerate now. As i am moving closer to the Comp i am discovering a whole new lifestyle.
I read somewhere recently that training for a comp is like having a 2nd job and you know what - it is true, only instead of earning money, i seem to be continuously spending money!
So far, I have organised my beautiful costume which is being made as we speak!
I have bought a gorgous pair of shoes for the comp to match my beautiful costume!
I have experienced the joys of WAXING! (a whole new experience for me girls)
I have posters plastered everywhere to remind me of the importance of preparing for the comp.
I have also purchased a copy of last years comp in Adelaide, so i can really start practising and perfecting my poses and routine. (MUSIC CHOSEN FOR THAT TOO!) and really take in what i am going to be experiencing myself very soon...................
I am so excited and so pumped.

I am training like a machine. Twice a day, one day off a week. Cardio, Weights, Circuits, Classes, RPM, Step, you name it. Oh and ABS too of course!!
I am lifting my weights to add more resistence and really taking off now with the cardio, Esp like the treadmill at the moment. Bike OK too.
Diet is boring boring boring, but it's ok. I can literally see myself shrinking, my body shaping and the fat disappearing! Week by week.

I basically feel absolutely fantastic.

Like to acknowledge all the people who are supporting me at the moment,
Trainer/Mentor and long distance training partner - Di, Hubby and also training buddy - Greg, beautiful Daughter Chelsea, also, some the guys at the gym who are always keen to help or know how i am going, Tom, Di, Brad, Tam, Ali, Bruce, etc.

Back to work,
chat later,

Relay for Life

Forgot to mention, before...................
Relay for Life.
I am involved with the Victor Harbor Relay for Life on the week end of March 13th/14th. I am in the fit bits Team with the f.i.t. health and fitness centre from Goolwa where i train. If you wish to donate to the team or me just look up the link on my facebook page, and you will be guided from there. We will be walking/jogging/running over the weekend to raise funds. Also some of my Troupe girls and I will be performing on the Sat arvo too. Look forward to seeing you there.
Thanks everyone, hoping to raise lots of money for the Cancer Council of SA.

Exciting times

Sorry, I haven't written for ages........ Am so busy, all the time.
Well last Monday i finally received my package from TAFE. so i have now started my Cert III to be followed i hope by Cert IV in Fitness - officially. Yay back to the world of study.
I have been burning the candle at both ends with my training. Working hard on my new program (started on Monday) and loving it. It is a great program, focussing mainly on my lower body now. It is great, not boring at all but very very tough! Thanks Di. I know you have my absolute best interest at heart. Wow, now on 12 training sessions a week and into the 4th week of a very restricted diet too. But, i have to say, my oh my, i AM seeing FABULOUS results!
Tomorrow i am going to have my first consultation for my Beautiful Comp Costume, so that is very very exciting for me. Not telling you the colour, only Chels and Greg know that secret.
I have also experienced for the first time - the joys of WAXING!!!! It wasn't as bad as i thought, thanks to my lovely beautician LAURA.............. Thank you Laura, you are a treasure.
Lots of cardio now, gotta burn off that rotten fat that hides the lovely muscle that is developing. Anyway, here's Greg so more later.........

Queensland - here i come!

Wow, just booked my flights to Qld. To spend a week end with Di. Yay. Can't wait to meet her in person. We will be working hard though. Routine and posing! Going in about a month's time. Awfully close to when my grandchild is due to arrive to this world! That's the only down side. I hope the baby doesn't decide to come when i am away. I couldn't bare to be away from Chels at her time of need. I 'm sure everything will work out as it is supposed to though.
Next week end i am going to visit Suzie. She is the clever lady who is going to make my costume for the comp. I have picked out the fabric and colour so far. Hopefully she has been able to get it in for me.
Have just been told i may have to stay on this bloody awful diet for some time! Aaaargh! No fair. But, if i want results i have to do it........... is what i have also been told, so i guess it's a case of - JUST DO IT JAN! My favourite saying, Just do it!
Anyway, work calls,
bye now,

Starting TAFE studies

This week i start my Cert 3 in Fitness (one year external) and then next year i am hoping to do Cert 4 in Fitness (again one year external) I can't wait to start. My goal is to become a Personal Trainer and work in a gym and then my dear hubby Greg can start tapering down a little with his work. He needs a rest from those damn CARS!!!
Will do most of the study by correspondence, but, some parts i will attend the Regency Park Tafe for practical parts of the course.
Exciting.................................
Twenty years ago i did Community Fitness Leadership at Tafe. The same study method as i was living up in Freeling then. Past Gawler. But let it all go after a year or two. So hopefully, i won't have too much trouble getting back into the mode of study.
Used to take Aerobic classes in the Community Hall in Freeling once upon a time. I remember spending hours putting together choreographies in my little kitchen with my tape recorder back then. (How old school!) No such thing as CD's back then!
More later.

10 Week count down

Have just registered with INBA in readiness for the comp. Now it is starting to feel very real. This week I have started a 10 week countdown. Di has put me on a very tight diet of mainly chicken, green veg, brown rice, and a few other bits and pieces which make life worth living - like almond butter (yum), rice porridge (mmmmm) and protein shakes (they are ok too). Plus lots and lots and lots of H20. And i mean lots. My training regime is about to change. The last couple of weeks i have added a 2nd workout each day. (Cardio) and yes i can finally say, my legs have clicked into gear. Hooray finally. I am starting to lose a bit more weight and my legs are finally starting to slim down. I can now feel the muscles underneath hardening and my legs are getting some shape. I currently weigh about the same weight as i did about 25 years ago! It's been a long long time since i felt this light. But if feels FANTASTIC. ABSOLUTELU FABULOUS.
More later.

Holiday week

Well, not really a holiday as such, but, a break from work and a change of scenery. It was so hot in Adelaide. We stayed 3 nights and did not stop sweating the whole time. Made me appreciate Goolwa a whole lot more!
Had fun, visited the Burnside Goodlife Gym about 6 times. The manager gave me a good deal and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Thanks Goodlife! Worked hard that week at the gym in town and enjoyed the variety of machines, some very different to what i have been using in Goolwa.
Went to Lorna Jane at Harbourtown too. Wow! what a beautiful shop. Again, thanks to the lovely staff who helped me in the store. They were lovely. Hubby bought me some fabulous fashionable sports wear for our Anniversary and i feel like a million dollars wearing all my new gear to the gym. It's like a little reward for all my hard work so far.
On that note, I am definately feeling changes are happening now in my lower body. Mind you strict as strict diet and very hard training twice a day!
More news in next post.

End Wk 5

Today was yuck.
Didn't feel like we had started our holidays yet - although officially we had.
Wasn't happy with my end of wk 5 stats.
Was nervous about my approaching performance at Thalassa in eve. (Always am a little nervous)
Got up late.
Day was going too fast.
Greg had to go in to work on his first day of holiays.
People kept ringing him about cars.
All up it was proving to be a bad day.......................
However, had a fabulous evening.
Realised that even though my stats hadn't changed much from last week - i actually tried on a few clothes in the arvo and it felt like they were all suddenly noticeably looser.
My legs and bum are definately feeling lots more toned and becoming more shaplier and i am feeling fabulous within myself.
When i put on my costume it felt soooo comfortable compared to usual.
Greg took some pics of me and they looked pretty good, so things were looking up!
The performance went beautifully and i had a great audience.
And on the way home, finally Greg and I felt like we had started our 9 days off!
Yay. We stopped in for a drink at the pub (i had a soda water) and then called in for a coffee at Nath's Restaurant. (Son in law's place of work)
On Monday it is our Wedding Anniversary and we are going out for dinner. I am having a free meal which will include dessert and a couple of drinks!!!! Wow, can't wait.
We are spending a few nights in town, going shopping, swimming, relaxing, listening to some live music and all in all enjoying ourselves.
We have a house and pet sitter organised so all is well.
Check in soon.
All the best.

Week 5 Day 3

I am sooooooooo excited.
Why?
2 Reasons........
As from Friday, Greg and i are having 9 days holiday! We are having a few nights away and will be celebrating our 7th Wedding Anniversary on Monday 8thFeb. And - I get to have my first free meal for 5 weeks! woo hoo. :)
Secondly, I am about to embark on a part time, training course. I am going to be a Qualified Fitness Instructor! Yay! I am so looking forward to that. Starting this month. Wow. It's all happening
Training going great guns, Greg has become my partner in crime every morning at the gym and we are having lots of fun together pushing each other to our limits.
Diet also going fabulously, loving it, and feel so healthy and well on this plan.
Love my trainer Di, (have never met her but I love her non the less!) She is soooo clever.
One day we will meet and it will be a terrific day!
Bye now,
Back to work, boss coming in to check on what is am doing!

Hahaha.

End week 4 already!!!! That's 28 days down!

Hey there once again,

This week i have worked very hard indeed.
Kept to my diet plan beautifully and am finding that is getting so much easier now. I am able to eat all the food now and actually look forward to each meal and each different day on the plan as i am doing 3 different days and rotating them. One day is carbs with every meal! That is my favourite day :)
Have added in a cardio session every afternoon or evening as well as my normal morning program. And funnily enough, even though it is so hard to get through that cardio session in the arvo, at the time, for the rest of the evening i feel great, whereas before i always felt really tired in the evening! I think my metabolism is starting to fire up, hooray. I have such a sluggish metabolism from years ago when i had an eating disorder. (in my 20's).
I now have to weigh and measure, and do skin folds and photos for my lovely lovely coach every Sat am, and she is adjusting my diet/training as necessary. I have never met Di, and only spoken on the phone to her once, last Sat, but i think she is fabulous.
Anyway, Wk 5 start for me officially on Monday. Better go and get back to work. Gotta keep the boss happy now he has joined the gym too and is helping me train in the mornings.
Bye now,

Jan xx

Hello to Kasha from CK

This one is for you Kasha. Thanks for taking an interest in my blog and following my story. I am quite honoured that someone is interested enough to follow my story!!
I am afraid i don't always write as often as i should. Sorry for that. So busy these days.
I have just started week 4 (on Monday) and am so enjoying the whole experience. Week 3 went really really well.
I have just started doing 2 training sessions a day - have added an extra session of cardio each arvo/evening to try and give my lower body a kick start. Need to shift some fat on the ole thighs!!
Also changing around the diet now too. To see what works best for me.
Have a day1 , day 2, and day 3 eating plan that rotates.
Day 1 is the best! Carbs with every meal............. Yay! Although each day has it's perks!
Anyway, hubby is calling me for tea, very late tonight as we had a busy evening.
Gotta go, there he goes again!
Bye now,

PS Kasha are you on face book? if so, look me up - just type in Jan Button.

Day 14. Last day of 1st 2 weeks!

Well here i am again. 2 weeks in to Pre Comp Training. The last 2 weeks have been tough, although not anywhere near as bad as i expected. I have only been eating Proteins, Fats and Fibrous Carbs. (Vegies only) But eating 6 meals a day, some days i could hardly eat all the food listed.
I have also increased my water intake from 2 litres a day to 3 - 4 litres a day. Didn't think i could stick out the diet or the water actually, but i did.
IT'S AMAZING WHAT YOU CAN DO WHEN IT IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO YOU!!
Greg has been a great help with support and cooking. I am starting to do more of the food prep and cooking myself now as he has also joined the gym and is coming with me in the mornings, so, he doesn't have as much time now, but i would rather do the prep and cook myself if it means he is coming to the gym and working out himself.
I am looking forward to the next 3 weeks as i will be on a rotation diet and 2 days out of 3 will be able to eat carbs again. YES!
Training has been really good too. Training less hours a week at the moment, but, harder in that i am using bigger, heavier weights and also practising posing now too which is quite tiring.
16 weeks down - 14 weeks to go.
Di my trainer/mentor is FABULOUS. In touch with me every day and very supportive and encouraging all the time. I am so hoping i will get to meet her.
Also have Kylie helping me too. She is terrific. So knowledgeable when it comes to Body Building and what is important in regard to the competition. Having been a competitor and a judge. She is so helpful, i am very, very, lucky to have her help.
Anyway, I know there are a few people following my blog now, so i say this to you guys......................... thanks for being interested in what i am doing and i hope that i can inspire you the way so many people are inspiring me at the moment.
Regards
Jan xx

Day 9 of the 16 weeks!

A week has past since my last post. Still going strong - i am happy to say. Although i haven't found the diet too daunting, i will be glad when the first 14 days is over and i can start re introducing some actual carbs to my diet. If i had to live on this diet forever i would probably become severely suicidal. I must admit though, i do feel really good on it!! Never hungry, in fact, always full! No upset tummies either, which i do often suffer from when eating a lot of carbs. Drinking lots of water 3 - 4 litres a day, hasn't been too hard with this heatwave either. My skin is glowing, haha. The training is great. I have realised i have to lift heavier weights, and really push myself with cardio, but, not necessarily train for as long. At least for now anyway. So at the moment i am spending about an hour at the gym instead of 90 mins. The key is to train HARD......... rather than long. I am LOVING IT!!
Di is FANTASTIC. What a wonderful trainer/coach/mentor she is. Fabulous lady. Emails me daily and is always at the end of the phone or internet for me.
Can't wait to meet her - hopefully in April for my Comp!!
Jan xxx
PS Greg has joined the gym too and is starting to train himself. Yay!!

Day 3

Had heaps of fun at training today. I really enjoyed it. Although i do love training anyway.
Did legs today (always my favourite) and Kylie (my body building friend and helper) came to the gym and we started on some Posing Practise. She brought her very, very, very, high heeled, platformed shoes for me to practise with, and her gorgeous costume, to show me!
Wow, they are unbelievable........
She helped me with my last set of leg extensions, wow, what a difference when someone is pushing you to do, one more, one more, and just one more. That was 4 more than i thought i could do!!!!
Anyway, am on third day, still coping fine on the diet. So far. All i seem to be doing is eating, eating and more eating. I must say that yesterday, when i did cardio and so therefore didn't have a protein shake after training (and before breakky) i didn't seem to feel as full all day, as i have today and Monday when i did weights and had that extra protein shake! Must make a big difference.
Di (my online trainer) is so clever, she has really worked it all out for me. And always just an email or text message away to answer sudden questions that i frequently seem to have. And Greg, (hubby) what an angel doing all the cooking to make sure there is always something there ready for me to eat when i am supposed to eat it. And making sure it is the RIGHT thing to eat.
Thanks, Greg and Di and Kylie. xxx
I have added a pic of me and Chels my gorgeous daughter (who is going to have a baby in April - about 2 weeks before my comp!!) at the beach during the holidays (in my fabulous new beach shelter) and my lovely Asian food steamer for cooking all those lovely veges in. Thanks for that Greg!!! I do love it.
Bye now,
Jan xxx

Day 2

Yay, nearly through Day 2 with no problems so far. I am happy to report.
Can't wait for tomorrow's training session at the gym in the morning, not only am i training legs (my favourite) but also, I am starting Posing/Routine Training with Kylie.
Today was cardio, Hight Intensity Interval Training on the stationery bike followed by Abs.
All went well, bike was kinda tough, and I felt tired afterwards, once i had gone home and had a shower and got ready for work.
I have been a bit hungrier today too, the food filled me up, but not for as long - it seemed.
Gonna have tea in a minute. Then supper after that, then BED.
Need more sleep. I have to try and get to bed earlier.
Anyway, off to have tea.
Bye now.

Day 1 - Pre Comp Training (15 weeks)

Well finally today has arrived. The day i start my Pre Comp Training. A strict nutritional program and training program for 15weeks duration which will take me to my first ever Body Building Competition in April.
So excited and nervous and a little apprehensive.
Up early and off to the gym as usual but a new training regime and a very very strict new diet! The first two weeks are pretty tough. But should give my body a big kick start I believe. Today wasback and biceps and yes i dragged my bike back out again to ride to and from the gym and work, like i was last year. Felt good though.
Proteins, fibrous carbs (veges), and fats. That is it!! Water, green or white tea, and the occasionally coffee!
How weird it felt having a minced beef BBQ burger, snow peas and avacado for breakky!!
And so much food, so often. Not even hungry and it is time to eat again! Every 2 - 3 hours.
It is mid arvo and so far, so good. Hope it continues this way!
Jan x

Start Tomorrow Yay!

Hey there,
Happy New Year to all.2010 Wow!
Well this is it............... The 15 week journey to my first ever body building comp at the age of 50!!! Unbelievable.
Tomorrow is D Day. The day i start a 2 week kick start nutrition plan (from hell) i know it is going to be sooooooooooo tough.
The training - i look forward to though.
Oh well, here we go - bring it on Di. (my trainer for the next 15 weeks)
Let's do it.
Will post as often as possible.
